Terminate an employee's contract
You start a termination from the employee's profile.
- Open People → Employees and select the employee.
- Open More Actions and select Terminate Contract.
- Enter the End Date & Time and choose the Reason for Termination. Add any notes.
- To have it approved first, turn on Require approval. Choose whether any one approver, all of them, or a single approver must approve, and pick the approvers.
- To make sure nothing is missed, turn on Assign offboarding tasks. Add tasks for HR, IT, Legal, Finance or others, with who does each and by when. Quick templates include Conduct exit interview, Revoke system access and Process final pay.
- Select End Employment.
If you don't choose approvers here, the organisation's termination workflow applies (People → Settings → Termination Approvals).
Watch out
Arrange final pay and handovers before the end date. Offboarding tasks are a good way to make sure nothing is missed.
Track exits
Every exit with its type, reason, effective date and approval
People → Employee Exits lists every termination, resignation and retirement. Filter by exit type or status.
- Edit an exit while it's Pending to change its reason, effective date or supporting documents.
- Delete a pending exit created by mistake.
Each employee's exits also appear on their profile, on the History tab.
