What counts as a failure
A delivery succeeds when your endpoint answers with any 2xx status within 10 seconds. Everything else is a
failure: another status code (redirects included), a timeout, a refused connection, or an invalid certificate.
Retries
KalHR tries each event up to 8 times over about two days:
| Attempt | When |
|---|---|
| 1 | Straight away |
| 2 | 1 minute later |
| 3 | 5 minutes later |
| 4 | 30 minutes later |
| 5 | 2 hours later |
| 6 | 6 hours later |
| 7 | 12 hours later |
| 8 | 24 hours later |
Each attempt is signed afresh, with a new t in the signature. The event id stays the same, so a receiver that
remembers ids handles each event once.
When KalHR stops sending
410 Gonetells KalHR you no longer want deliveries. The endpoint is switched off at once.- An endpoint that keeps failing is switched off. When 3 events in a row have failed every attempt, and nothing has been delivered successfully in the last 3 days, KalHR switches the endpoint off and emails your organisation's administrators.
While an endpoint is switched off, events aren't kept for it. To recover, fix the cause, switch the endpoint back on, and redeliver what you missed from the delivery log.
The delivery log
The Delivery log on Settings → Webhooks lists every delivery for the last 30 days, newest first. Filter it by endpoint or by status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Waiting for its first attempt or its next retry |
| Delivered | Your endpoint answered 2xx |
| Failed | Every attempt failed |
| Not sent | Cancelled, because the endpoint was switched off |
Select a delivery to see the event it carried, each attempt's status code and time, and the first 500 characters of your endpoint's answer.
Redeliver sends a delivery again, with a fresh set of attempts. It keeps the event's id, so a receiver that has
already handled it can recognise the repeat.
Manage an endpoint
On each endpoint in Settings → Webhooks:
- Switch off / Switch on stops and resumes deliveries. Switching off cancels deliveries that were waiting.
- The pencil changes the URL, description or events.
- The key icon rotates the signing secret. The old one stops working at once.
- The bin removes the endpoint and its delivery log.
